When the semester began at The Garden campus ministry in Brisbane, Australia, the team was excited to have all of their usual scheduled events in person because of low Coronavirus infection rates, said campus minister Emily Abernathy.
Christmas in Dandenong, Australia, looks a lot different from the holiday in Michigan, where CMF team member Abby Weller is from, but she says it’s still her favorite time of year.
“Although we have sun, 100-degree days, beach time and barbeques, the annual party I throw to thank our children and youth ministry volunteers now ‘says Christmas’ to me,” said Abby.
It was her 28th birthday and CMF team member Abby Weller decided to spend it with the kids she loves — the church youth group that she serves in Dandenong, Australia. And in doing so, God gave her a special gift.
REACH interns Anna Woolf and Anna Grover are spending the summer “down under” in the city of Melbourne, Australia, with CMF team member Abby Weller. Abby’s ministry is centered in the hyper-diverse, low-socio-economic suburb of Dandenong, where she works with young people in her partner church’s youth group and in the local public school.
