INTERNATIONAL CAMPUS MINISTER
Campus ministers make up the team that fuels each Globalscope international
campus ministry. These men and women get to spend days and nights
with university students, pointing them to Christ and enjoying the
experience along the way. Each campus minister has his or her own
set of responsibilities on the team, which could be as simple as
keeping the campus house clean to personally discipling student
leaders. Campus ministers learn the local language, observe the
culture, engage in appropriate lifestyle in the community, and invest
themselves in ministry and in individuals. The goal is to help students
grow in Christ and become part of a warm and welcoming community
for other students.
Bangkok, Thailand
Just off the Thammasat University campus, the Grapevine opens its
doors to Thai students for fun and friendship. Team members Greg
& Allison Coley, Andy & Jen May, Michal Ruth Penwell, and exchange students from the US share the Gospel through
their lives by spending time with Thai Buddhist students, getting
to know them and letting them get to know Jesus through their lives.
Mondays, FOC (Fun on Campus) means games and brownies on campus.
Grape Jam is the Tuesday night dinner and music event. On Wednesday
evenings, Café English provides an English activity and dinner
afterward. Grape Seed is the Thursday night meeting at the market
on campus, finding a quiet place to worship, pray, and have a devotion
from the life and ministry of Jesus. Friday mornings the Grapevine
community visits a local orphanage, then has FRUNCH (Friday lunch
together on campus) to connect with friends before the weekend.
And, there is always time for sports and just to hang out ... always
pointing students to Jesus Christ.
Santiago, Chile
For university students all around Chile’s capital, El Oasis
is the place to be almost any day of the week. Mark Jackson and
Heather Pearce are the campus ministers for this 4-year-old outreach,
teamed with interns and US exchange students. Six new members will
join the team in 2007 to take El Oasis-Chile to the next level.
The El Oasis campus house hosts Monday Night Devotional Dinner and
Thursday Night Bible Study, worship, karaoke, fun with friends,
community outreach, and opportunities for prayer.
Puebla, Mexico
At la casa verde (the green house), la UDLA university students
come to hang out or join the Thursday night dinner and Bible study
... or any number of activities planned just for them. Nathan &
Erin McDade, Matt & Angie Stryker, Sarah Powell, Corrie Cope,
Cody Spencer, Mikell West, and Wess Willis serve as the campus ministers.
You’ll also find exchange students from US colleges and universities
making friends on campus and joining in the activities. Called El
Pozo (the well), this campus ministry provides community for students
so they will develop a relationship with Jesus Christ and grow in
their faith.
Salamanca, Spain
Only 2 years old, En Vivo (Live!) attracts hundreds of students
from the university campus to fun activities and life-changing Bible
studies, almost always with food. Chris Beirne and Jeremy Lawler
actually live in the campus house, so that they are available practically
24/7. Students also find Jesse & Sophie Bentley and Cheryl Johnson
ready to spend time with them. American exchange students join the
team each semester to meet new students and draw them into the En
Vivo community. For this school year they have also welcomed their
first interns. The team hosts a weekly dinner and Bible study, holds
retreats, plans fellowship and social activities, offers Café
Inglés, leads individual and small group Bible studies and
discipleship meetings. It’s all designed to challenge the
students’ faith in Jesus Christ, as well as plug them into
the community and introduce them to fellow students they may not
otherwise meet.
Mexico
City, Mexico
This ministry -- CMF-Globalscope’s first -- is being restructured
and revitalized toward a grand re-opening. More information to come.
Birmingham, England and Tuebingen, Germany

among the university students in Birmingham, England (2007), and
Tuebingen, Germany (2008).
