Northeast Christian Church is Making a Difference in Chile
Northeast Christian Church (NECC) in Louisville, KY has long been committed to supporting global missions, but their partnership with Greg and Eli Klass in Chile has become a powerful example of how intentional investment can change lives. One such story is Alex’s.
Alex, a university student studying personal training in Viña del Mar, had no faith background. He first came to El Oasis, Greg and Eli’s Globalscope campus ministry, when a friend invited him to Café a lo Gringo, a weekly English practice event. Though his friend stopped attending, Alex kept coming back, curious about the welcoming community.
In May 2023, NECC sent a team to Chile as part of their ongoing support of the ministry. The team participated in Café a lo Gringo and other ministry events, but it was during a tour of the city that Alex’s life began to shift. Rich Provost from NECC took a genuine interest in Alex, using the tour’s casual moments — snacks, lunch and conversation — to learn about his life and share his own faith. This connection sparked something in Alex, encouraging him to engage more deeply with El Oasis.
NECC’s support goes beyond regular trips. Their financial partnership ensures that students like Alex have access to mental health services without long waits. The church also sponsors meal services during ministry retreats, freeing up the staff to focus on meaningful conversations with students. In 2018, NECC recognized this need and stepped in to cover the costs — a small but impactful shift that created space for deeper ministry.
After the 2023 trip, Alex became a regular at El Oasis events. He started leading HIIT workouts for EO Sport, the ministry’s calisthenics group, building his confidence and sense of belonging. He began asking deeper questions about faith, and a Dutch exchange student eventually guided him to baptism in 2024. Alex told Greg afterward, “God is in my heart, and He is there to stay.”
Alex’s transformation is a direct result of NECC’s partnership — not just through funding, but through their presence, prayers, and personal investment. NECC’s ongoing commitment to Greg and Eli’s ministry is more than financial; it’s relational, and it’s changing lives in Chile, one story at a time.
