Africa Is Rising as a Force in Global Missions

Today’s blog article is written by CMF missionary BJ Leonard, whose work in Kenya includes teaching at Harvest Missionaries College where pastors and prospective missionaries attend in order to be sent out to Kenya, other countries in Africa, and around the world as missionaries and pastors.

Today, God is writing a new chapter in the history of world missions. God is raising up a new generation of missionaries from Africa who are going to the world. In particular, Kenyan men and women are feeling the call to go and make disciples of all nations.

The Kingdom-implications of such a revolutionary shift in missions are almost unimaginable: A new generation of missionaries indigenous to Africa who can cross ethnic, cultural, and linguistic boundaries to unreached people who have been largely uncrossed by Western missionaries in the past. Africa is the future of missionary sending and will be transformational in taking the Gospel to new places and reach new people groups.

Harvest Missionaries College (HMC) began in 2016 with the vision to train and send Kenyan missionaries to make disciples in unreached parts of Kenya, Africa, and the world. Today, HMC is at the forefront of raising up, training, and sending out African missionaries who will reach the world in new ways.

HMC has already begun training and sending missionaries who are preparing to enter neighboring countries like Somalia, Ethiopia and South Sudan, while other students are sensing a calling to the Middle East. These students will go with a strong theological foundation, sharpened skills in cultural engagement, and a deep commitment to the leading of the Holy Spirit. HMC also provides vital vocational training so missionaries can support themselves and their ministries on the field.

The missional momentum is growing. God’s calling of people into missions and the growing reach of Harvest Missionaries College are evidenced by a student body that has tripled in size over the last 12 months and the formation of a group of 20 high school students who have committed to being trained in cross-cultural disciple-making. In addition, HMC recently received land for the development of a new college campus to train and send even more missionaries.

We give glory to God for all that He is doing to grow His kingdom.
