Providing Urgent Relief in South Asia
After weeks of relentless rain, the skies opened even wider—three straight days of downpour turned into a torrent. What began as a depression grew into a deep depression, and then a full cyclone. In some areas of South Asia, nearly 14 inches of rain fell in just 24 hours. The region has not seen such devastation since the 2004 tsunami.
CMF workers and local partners immediately began providing help, using their own resources to bring help to those in desperate need. Churches have become shelters for displaced families, offering food and clean water—essentials for survival. One church is housing 15 families, while another has welcomed 50 people from a nearby slum into its building.
Teams have reached rural villages that had received little attention. In one village, 30 families—Buddhist, Muslim, and Christian—were sheltering together in a Buddhist temple lecture hall. When CMF teammates and partners delivered dry rations, the Buddhist monks expressed deep gratitude: “Thank you for coming to see us and sharing these goods!”
Another team braved treacherous mountain roads, damaged by landslides, to deliver essentials to 75 families. They found children in government school classrooms with minimal facilities, so they brought special items for the kids—small gestures of hope in the midst of chaos.
In a refugee camp housed in a school, CMF partners cooked a hearty meal with meat—something the displaced families hadn’t tasted in weeks—and organized a program that brought joy to the children. Across the region, schools, mosques, and churches have become havens for those who lost everything.
One group even held a previously planned Christmas program at a girls’ orphanage. They shared the gospel, gave gifts, food, and school supplies. The girls sang songs for the team, and the Buddhist matrons were truly moved by the love they witnessed.
Now, our CMF team is prayerfully planning how to use the funds they’ve gathered to meet the most urgent needs—helping families rebuild and offering care for those traumatized by this catastrophic disaster.
You can make a difference today. Please consider contributing to our relief fund. Every gift will provide essential, immediate support to families who have lost everything.
