Fundraising
Since you will serve with a non-profit ministry during your study abroad semester you are permitted to raise a portion of the costs for your semester abroad through tax-deductible donations. Tax-deductible means that it is raised through an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization: CMF International.
Globalscope, a division of CMF, is focused on planting international campus ministries and oversees the Exchange Intern program. Any contributions made payable to CMF toward your budget are tax-deductible, and the donor will receive a receipt for his tax records. You will be allowed to raise support for travel, housing, food, and pre-departure costs (passport, immunizations, visa, etc.)
Your tuition costs are not considered tax-deductible. Since this is a cost that you would normally incur while studying in the United States, you are not allowed to raise money through CMF for that amount. If you would like to raise funds on your own for tuition, that is allowed; however, those donations will not be considered tax-deductible.
Your study abroad budget will be determined by your U.S. university program. If you choose to study abroad in a country where your university does not have a program, Globalscope will provide you with a budget.
If you have any other questions about your budget, funds, payments, or support, please contact the Study Abroad Coordinator at 317.578.2700.
