Hope in the Anexo
As part of Michael Grimm’s work in Mexico City, he has the great opportunity to share the Gospel and lead a bible study at a local rehab facility, known in Spanish as the Anexo. Here he shares how local church members are trying to provide hope in a challenging place.
These are difficult places as the majority of individuals were placed there by their families against their will as voluntary consent is not needed to place someone in such a facility. In many cases, it resembles and feels like a prison. With that being said, we are further connecting the church to this place to be beacons of hope and light. Five families from the church went with me to celebrate Mexican Independence Day at the Anexo where we shared a meal together.
One of our church members, Fran (pictured right) is a nurse by profession. She has graciously offered her services to those who are in the Anexo. Yes, Fran is a skilled and talented nurse, but more than that, she uses her medical knowledge to bring people to the feet of the Great Physician. I have watched her share the Gospel and pray for miracles over each and every individual as she takes their blood pressure or sugar levels.
One young man shared with us that the reason he abused crystal meth was because of a pain that he has had in his stomach going back ever since he could remember. He had tried everything, and no doctor could give him an answer as to what was causing the pain. So, what did Fran and I do? We prayed that God would take that pain away so that he no longer had to turn to drugs to numb it.
When I returned to the Anexo to give the bible study a few days later, the young man shared his testimony that God had miraculously healed him and took the pain away. Praise be to God!
