Individual Retirement Accounts

Giving Through Your IRA (Qualified Charitable Distributions)

If you are age 70½ or older, you may give directly to CMF International from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD allows your gift to be transferred straight from your IRA custodian to CMF and excluded from your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions.

Each year, you may give up to the annual IRS limit (currently indexed for inflation). If you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), your QCD can also count toward your RMD, making this one of the most tax-efficient ways to support CMF’s mission.

QCDs must come from an IRA (not a 401(k) or 403(b)) and must be sent directly to CMF on your behalf. Your IRA custodian can assist you with the simple transfer process.

As with any charitable contribution from a retirement account, we encourage you to consult your financial or tax advisor to understand how a QCD fits your personal situation and current IRS rules.

Interested in distributing funds directly from your IRA? We’d love to help!
