Cyclone Relief in South & Southeast Asia: How IDES Helped Bring Hope After the Storm
When a powerful cyclone struck South and Southeast Asia over Thanksgiving weekend, entire communities were left reeling. Homes were swept away, livelihoods disrupted, and thousands of families suddenly found themselves without the essentials they needed to survive. In the midst of this devastation, CMF missionaries and partners on the ground responded quickly—but this rapid and deeply impactful work was only possible because of the generosity of International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES).
For many years, CMF and IDES have partnered to bring relief and Christ-centered hope to vulnerable communities around the world. Once again, IDES stepped into the crisis with a generous $15,000 grant that fueled an extraordinary wave of compassion and practical support.
Meeting Immediate Needs with Dignity and Care
Using the IDES grant—along with additional CMF funds—our teams distributed 360 care kits, reaching 1,775 displaced and struggling individuals. These kits were intentionally designed to be meaningful and substantial: each one contained enough food and hygiene essentials to support a family of four for roughly a month. Items included rice, dhal, milk powder, canned fish, noodles, flour, spices, tea, sugar, soaps, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and sanitary products—simple but life-sustaining essentials for families who had lost nearly everything.
Our teams worked in areas hit especially hard by Cyclone Ditwah. Local pastors and community leaders helped identify the most vulnerable families, ensuring that aid went where it was needed most and opened the door for continued ministry in the months ahead.

Caring for Caregivers
One of the unexpected blessings of this project was the ability to support “the helpers”—pastors, volunteers, and community leaders who had spent days providing emergency assistance despite losing income and security themselves. Many had been working nonstop to provide wellness checks, distribute clean water, or cook meals for displaced neighbors. Because of the support from IDES, we were able to provide care packs for these servant-leaders as well, strengthening relationships and encouraging those who had been pouring themselves out for others.
Opening Doors for Long-Term Ministry
Along with practical relief, our teams offered encouragement, prayer, and the hope of the Gospel in every community. By partnering with local pastors during distributions, we helped them build trust and open doors for ongoing ministry. In several communities, these connections have already led to new opportunities—such as invitations to join local leadership committees and requests for CHE (Community Health Evangelism) training.
This project didn’t just meet immediate needs; it expanded influence, deepened relationships, and created new pathways for long-term transformation.
Thank You, IDES
We are deeply grateful for IDES’s long-standing partnership and for their generous support in this critical moment. Because of their investment, families received real help when they needed it most—and entire communities experienced the love of Christ through tangible care. Together, CMF and IDES are bringing hope in the wake of disaster and planting seeds for lasting impact.
