A team of 29 amazing people from across the country who are passionate about the ministry of Missions of Hope International (MOHI) hiked up Mt. Kilimanjaro in early January to benefit the new MOHI sports ministry in Nairobi, Kenya.
Although they are spread out over three different countries, the CMF Globalscope campus ministers in Uruguay, Chile and Mexico share a common language and similar context and mission. The idea of getting together to share dreams and ideas that has been on the back burner for a couple of years finally gelled into the first-ever Latinscope in Lima, Peru, in early February.
Campus ministry “wasn’t on my radar at all” says Canvas Nottingham team leader Christine Barber, who was studying to be a teacher. Then a trusted friend suggested she try a semester as an exchange intern with the Globalscope campus ministry in Birmingham, England.
A school started by a Marketplace Ministry family in Southeast Asia was designed to serve local unreached people groups, but now more than half the student body are children from extremely closed countries in the Middle East.
Allison previously served as an exchange intern with this ministry in Santiago and now she can’t wait to go back long-term to use her degree in Spanish and enjoy the relational, open and welcoming culture of Chile. She also hopes to share her love of rock-climbing with students and draw them into the El Oasis Christian community.
